yes. i asked the same question and in the pamphlet, it says that it is ok to use tampons. however be careful when you pull the tampon out because the ring might come out with it. if that happens simply rinse it off with warm water and place it back in.

∙ 9y agoIf you've used NuvaRing correctly in the previous weeks, you're at no increased risk of pregnancy during the ring-free week. If you've made an error in ring use, you may be at risk regardless of bleeding.

What happens if you get your period while NuvaRing is still in?
If you get your period while NuvaRing is in, continue using the ring as scheduled. You can use tampons or pads for bleeding according to your preference. This unscheduled bleeding is common during the first three months of using the ring. If it lasts longer or has other symptoms, or if it just bother you, talk to your heatlh care provider about other birth control options.

If you have not had sex you know you are not pregnant, it is possible the hormones in NuvaRing are enough to prevent the withdrawal bleeding you had while on BCP. One possible side effect of the NuvaRing is for bleeding to stop completely. You should replace the device on the day it is due, if you have withdrawal bleeding or not. (more information at link)
What if your period comes a day before your supposed to take your NuvaRing out?
You should use the ring on schedule regardless of bleeding. If your period starts while it's in, leave it in until you're scheduled to remove it. You can still use pads or tampons for bleeding as usual.

Stress is not likely to affect your period when you're on hormonal birth control, as the medication "takes control" of the hormones that affect your period with stress.
