No.
American Eskimo Dogs and all other 'noric' type does are MEANT to have the full coat they posses. Evolution has ensured that they 'blow' thier coat in the fall to get in thier winter coat and in the spring to get in thier summer coat. By 'blowing' thier coat they either shed thier light coat for thier heavy winter coat or shed thier heavy winter coat to get in thier light summer coat. Think of it as changing from your sweaters and warmups to your shorts and tank tops and vice versa. If you don't want to brush your dog weekly and bathe him or her as needed I suggest you surrender him/her to an Eskie resuce so he/she can be placed with adopted parents that will care for her properly. I have had an Eskie for 6 years and though you have to watch how much time they spend out side in the 85+ or below 50 temperatures they are a great dog to have. Just respect thier breed enough NOT to cut thier coat. By cutting thier coat you are doing more harm than good.
Yes, you can trim the fur on most dogs. However, you should be careful about how much you trim off, as most arctic breed dogs have light colored skin that will sunburn easily.
