No because they are too dense to figure it out
I have the same issue so I have to keep an old bank account open as I want to buy my own things without the wife having to grill me on "Why do you need that"
PayPal I know your are covering your butts because of either partner saying they didnt want that. block payment etc. They are losing money as people will say Ill go elsewhere.

No, you cannot. Having a joint Paypal account is a violation of Paypal's TOS. I had an account for about a year with both mine and my wife's name on it. At some point, Paypal noticed and locked my account. Everything was frozen. I couldn't send money, withdraw, etc. I needed to jump through a bunch of hoops, faxing documents including my SS card, a utility bill, etc. to prove my identity and they told me the problem was the joint status on the account. After everything, it took about a week for everything to be resolved and they removed my wife's name from the account.

Question continued ...When I split from my ex partner we had the problem of a joint bank account. We tried to have either of our names taken off the account but ran in to problems when they refused me this service due to an out of date passport. I then realised that my name was added to the account (which was already established in her name) with said expired passport. Does this mean that I can deny responsibility for any of the remaining debts attached to the account because the agreement that I would have signed should be void as the documentation they used to open the account was invalid?
