No, you sign it in front of the notary. By having something notarized, you usually show ID that you are in fact, who you are claiming you are. Then, after that is done, you sign it in front of the notary, so he sees the correct individual has signed it and not someone else. Because when the notary signs it and places his stamp, it proves the right person has signed the document and no one else, making the document official and legal.
