Asked in Betta and Siamese Fighting Fish
Can your beta fighting fish be pregnant even when she the only one you have?
It is possible for a female betta to produce eggs (which will show up as a slightly swollen abdomen) with no males present. Normally she will release the eggs when no male is available; they will not hatch without being fertilised. Don't be tempted to buy a male; this is normal, and adding a male will only result in a huge amount of fighting. Males and females cannot be kept together.
