Scabies is not considered to be highly contagious.
It is considered safe to both hug and shake hands with an infected person.
One have to be "unlucky" for brief exposures to actually be infective.
Scabies is a tiny mite in the spider family. It digs into the skin and live most of its life in these "burrows" in the skin. It does not come out, just in order to infect or spread to other people.
Sleeping together with or sharing clothes with somebody that has got this parasitic infection is a very bad idea.
If your daughter have been frequently playing with this girl, then this will of course increase the risk of infection.
It is however more likely that she got scabies through cloths that have been hanging next to or on top of other cloths worn by the girl or other persons with scabies.
Sharing hats is considered a problem, but scabies does not normally infect head areas.
Walking in an infected persons shoes is considered a great risk. Scabies thrive and multiply in the thin skin between toes and underneath the foot.

Scabies can be treated with TeaTree oil. I have found that a 30% solution of TeaTree oil mixed with GrapeSeed oil (70%) is quite effective. Studies from Australia have shown that TeaTree oil solutions as low as 5% prove lethal to scabies.
A doctor would most likely advice a cream/lotion containing 0.5% Permethrin or 0.5% Malathion. This depends on country, and some scabies are resistant to Permethrin.
While it can be treated with TeaTree oil solutions, it should be advised that some people are allergic to this, especially in high concentrations.
A doctor, preferably a skin specialist should be consulted for more information and possibly other methods of treatment.
Note:
To successfully get rid of scabies, the entire family should go through treatment.
Scabies does not live for long outside a host. 3 days at the very most. Less when it is very hot like in the summer.
To go camping for three days whilst being treated is a very good idea as your house will be "clean" when you get back.
