Based on my personal observations over more than 50 years, it is my conclusion that the answer is NO, but ask your vet the next time you make contact. I have observed this phenomenon in my own dogs and those of neighbor and friends, and it appears there is NO negative impact on a dogs health. Oh yes, the old "snack bar!"

Generally, it won't cause death. My dogs use to do this and I had to train them not too. When I caught them (they would always have kitty litter on their nose) they were shamed and eventually it broke them of the habit. I also use a "pooper scooper" every single day to clean out the kitty litter box. I have never found a vet that could answer the question as to why some dogs will eat the feces of another dog or cat. My guess is it goes back to when they were wild.

Answer

Same here. It seems all my dogs love "Krispy Treats" as I call them. For some reason they especially love the ones coated with litter from the litter box! ( add's crunch?? LOL) I don't know why they do it, I just know it's a nasty habit that's hard to break but it certainly won't hurt them. If it did, all my dogs would be dead by their 1st birthday!

YES. Especially if it's other dogs poop. (we don't know how) but our family dog recently came back from the vet with the news that she has Hookworm. Its 'caught' when one dog with it passes it on to another through poop. It can also be spread if the animal "goes" on live vegetation and your dog smells or eats it.

Hope the dog is ok!

yes, my dog was a few months almost a year she would eat her stuff but then at one point she stoped, but then we caught her again eating her own stuff, but we stopped her again. Soon she started getting skinny and sick. We took her to the vet and it was for that reason; her eating her stuff. Then only like a day later she stopped moving and died.btw stuff is you know...it wouldn't let me put it.

No. Dogs eat their own poo sometimes too. It may be disgusting but they know that there is nutrients in it they need so they eat it.

If there is enough undigested protein left in it, they likely mistake it for edible material. Avoid letting a dog eat this material because it could lead to dehydration.Additional thoughts:Your dog probably eats its poop because its stomach hurts. If you see him/her eating his poop, walk your dog for a while and only let him/her drink water.Another guess that your dog is eating its poop is that he/she ate something and the remains of it are still in its poop and he/she likes how it tastes.Another reason that your dog would eat it's own poop is because there is fiber in the poop from their food. These are only guesses and if your dog keeps on eating its poop, then ask a vet on your next check up.Malnutrition or a behavior in which they want to cover their traces. Poo attracts other animals to their homes as well.

Can you get sick from eating plant eating caterpillars?

Yes, you can get sick from it. Maybe not in human form, but in animal form. Aphids are known as a parasite. My own dog has been sick for a week because the aphids are falling out of the trees. They land in her food and water bowl, she eats or drinks them. She has been sick for a week now after the parasites started falling out of the trees.
