The engine needs compression, fuel and spark to run, you are missing one of those.
It could be a lot of things. Does it turn over? If not it could be a low battery, contacts that are corroded or not tight enough, or you're not in park or neutral. If it does, it could be flooded (especially if it's carbureted) making it smell a lot like gas, or there could be humidity in the distributor. There are lots of other reasons, but in my experience these are the most common.
Check battery voltage--With engine running it should be 13.8-14.2
I'm not a mechanic, but basically... A distributor sends electricity to the spark plugs so they can fire and push the pistons. An alternator takes the mechanical energy from the running motor and uses it to recharge the battery.
Won't turn over? 1-Bad starter 2-No power to starter: discharged battery, bad battery or loose connection 3-No signal to starter: bad ignition switch or starter relay or blown fuse or security 4-Engine stuck: Belt driven accessory problem (remove belts) or hydraulic lock (remove spark plugs) or seized engine or transmission problem
No, that will have no effect on the battery.
Ignition switch, coils, starter, alternator, spark plugs. plug wires, battery.
Check your battery and alternator.
Spark plugs don't smoke. A bad alternator would cause a dead battery.
Check where your battery cables mount to the starter & engine. It sounds like you have a dirty/corroded connection.... Either that, or your motor is tied up.
Mainly it is for the starter motor. Once it's running, it's quite common that a car will keep running from the alternator even if the battery is dead. But without being able to use the starter motor, getting it going is quite tricky.
you need to reprogram your radio when the battery has been disconnected - see owners manual
follow the positive wire from your battery and it plugs into your seloniod which is connected to your starter.
No, the starter is usually for help starting your car along with your battery. If your car is stalling chack all your spark plugs and wires. If that doesn't work your alternator might not be working. Starters help your car START.
Take it in to your nearest Autozone and have the starter checked. Before having to push or tow your car, make sure both leads are securely attached to the battery and other wiring; from the alternator to the distributor and distributor cap to spark plugs etc.
We need more info. The alternator is necessary, but the starter turns the flywheel to start the engine requiring a good battery. Does the battery turn the engine over, does the engine fire the spark plugs. Is there sufficient gasoline in the tank to start the car? Please give symptoms. Thanks.
Battery will be flat because spark plugs were running straight off your battery because the alternator was not charging your battery as you were driving. You can test this by jump starting your car with another car and after your car is running you should be able to disconnect your battery and car should still run off the alternator. If your car stops than your alternator is RS. Battery will be flat because spark plugs were running straight off your battery because the alternator was not charging your battery as you were driving. you will need to remover the starter from to get to the rear plugs and remove to alternator to get to the front plugs. not really any other way unless you have very small hands and tools.
