There is some evidence for prior Tuberculosis infection leading to the development of lung cancer. Studies have also looked at Chlamydia pneumoniae and HPV infections possible etiological agents but the verdict is still out on those. (as of Sept. 2011)
The vast majority of lung cancers are cause by smoking. Other known risk factors include inhalation of asbestos and exposure to radon (a radioactive gas that is produced by certain minerals in the ground). Exposure to two risk factors increases the risk of lung cancer very much.
