This is not an easy or inexpensive project. The water pump is located behind the timing belt in housing on the passenger side of the engine Because this job is so labor intensive, it is highly recommended that the water pump be replaced in conjuntion with the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and possibly the cam and crank seals (recommended). The service intervalon this job is every 60,000 miles on this engine. Unless you really know what you're doing (many parts must be removed to expose the timing housing), using a repudable mechanic is advised. You're going to spend between $500.00 and $600.00. To change your water pump, remove the bel!ts and the engine mount, remove the tensioner cover and the water pump cover. Remove chain tensioner, putting slack on chain, crank engine backwards 30 degrees to loosen chain at water pump. Lift chain off water pump gear. Use two bolts tightening evenly to remove water pump.
