The size of the colonists were vast, England and Scotland were smaller than present states of New York and Pennsylvania. Native Americans were there at first but soon left after the Revolutionary war. There was a vast difference in the people that were in colonial America such as Puritans from Massachusetts and Quakers from Pennsylvania who came to the "new world" for religious reasons. Where others came for economic reasons. New England and Georgia had little large estates and, partly as a result had different social and political cultures than those elsewhere. Slavery was practiced by all colonies but the in the south, they were more common. In South Carolina they were used for coastal farming which meant slaves had to work at plantations and plant crops. In New England they were used for raising livestock for local market along with growing crops. Colonists that didn't work on farms were sailors, shoemakers, silversmiths and a host of other occupations.
