selenium has a -2 charge. when it forms a compound with another atom the charge of the compound should be zero unless it has a cahrge in its equation. when compounds form they try to be in the most stable state which is when all their valance elctrons are full which means the charge is zero.

What would an aluminum atom tend to do in bonding with another atom to form an ionic compound?

When aluminum forms an ionic compound, it tends to take the form of a cation with a +3 charge. This would happen because it would donate three of its electrons to the anion(s) it forms the ionic compound with.

What is the charge of NaOH or lye?

Sodium hydroxide, or lye, does not have a charge. It is an ionic compound composed of sodium 1+ and hydroxide 1- ions. When they combine to form the ionic compound sodium hydroxide, the 1+ and 1- charges cancel each other and the compound is neutral.
