the check engine light is for emmissions/exhaust only. the srs light will appear in any case of the seat belt or air bag system since the belts have pretensioners. i would have the BMW dealer to check it out for sure. there were some recalls on some seat belts which might include yours as well.
The most likely cause o f the check engine light is that the belt was not tightened properly. It may also be that the belt stretched and needs to be retightened.
There are many reasons why a check engine light could come on following a timing belt change. When the check engine light comes on there is a code stored in the computer to tell you why the light came on. Most auto parts stores will read the code for free.
Check engine light will come on for various reasons. The o2 sensors could be one of them. If your belt breaks the light will come on and the engine will over heat. I mentioned the o2 sensor because when it comes on for this reason some people have had that light on for years without replacing the sensor.
No. This car does not have a timing belt.
Possibly, if the alternator is driven by that belt and it is setting a voltage code.
check the engine belt and the alternator belt
i have a 1994 eclipse with a 1.8 we replaced the head gasket and timeing belt now it sputters at low rpms an the check engine light is on what could be th problem ?
Nothing except - maybe - a broken belt.
timing belt may have snapped
Belt was probably installed incorrectly. Take it back and have them check it.
The check engine light is for emission and electrical issues. It doesn't have anything to do with fluid levels. As far as the timing belt it depends if the light just came on, or if it has been on since the replacement.
yes if your car or truck has a schuled matience program in its onboard computer,or from belt not being tight enough.tighten your belt.then disconnect the battery neg. then cut the lights on in the car to drain the rest of the juice left in the car.that will reset the check engine light in most cars,if light comes on agin get codes from engine and check and clean sensors
