Verkhoyansk ( yakut. Verhoyanskay ) - a city in the Verkhoyansk District of Yakutia , on the right bank of the river Yana.

The lowest temperature of is 67,8 ° C was recorded here in February 1892 . Verkhoyansk is often called the cold pole of the northern hemisphere .
The winter is extreme cold, dry and long , summers are short but warm and relatively dry ( there are hot periods ) , although there is sharp cold snap. The city with the largest difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures. Rainfall is small 150-200 mm. There is the light morning frost the whole year round , including summer.
In Verkhoyansk was marked minimum temperature in April ( -57.2 ) , October ( -48.7 ) and May ( -34.2 ) in Russia.
