go to the control panel and un-install the drive unit, then shut the computer down totally. Let it re-boot and see if it then locates the drive. If it re-installs it with no problem then try a DVD in it. If it still does not, you probably need to update your drivers.

Probably the disk is bad. I had this happen and I inserted another disk and it recognized it.
