"Acceleration" means a change of speed or direction of motion, or both.

If you change direction ... like turning a corner ... then there is acceleration,

even though your speed is constant.

Anything traveling on a circular track, even at a constant speed, has constant

acceleration.

If you drive a car around in a circle your velocity is constantly changing (ie you are accelerating) but your speed could be constant. Velocity is speed with direction, so your speed could be a steady 10 metres per second but your velocity (ie direction) changes back and forward as you go around the circle. Acceleration with constant speed.

no because acceleration is the increase in velocity or speed.

Answer:

in the case of linear acceleration the speed must be increasing or decreasing to produce acceleration However, centripetal acceleration is acceleration that comes from a force that is not in a straight line, when the object moves circular pattern with radius, r. Unlike linear acceleration which has the acceleration in the direction of the applied force, centripetal acceleration has an acceleration tangential to the force. it is perpendicular to the line of movement

Why do propellers blades vary?

Another word for a ships propeller is a 'screw'. Modern ship propellers have variable pitch blades, which means the blades can change angles (even to a 'reverse angle). The pitch is changed by changing hydraulic pressure in the propeller. One reason: You can change the pitch a lot faster than you can change the speed of the engine, since the heavy shaft and propellers have momentum, this is especially important, if you need to go 'full reverse' to avoid collision. If you did not have variable pitch blades, the shaft would have to come to a complete stop before it could reverse direction of rotation. Another reason, the engine can be run at an 'optimum speed' for fuel efficiency, and the blade pitch adjusted if you need to adjust speed.

Normally a high current flows through a short circuit even if there is no change to the voltage. Why is this?

A high current flows through a short circuit even if there is no voltage change because the resistance across the short circuit is zero.

What is speed multiplier?

a speed multiplier is an object which moves at high speed and multiplies that to create more speed with an object it is trying to move. an example is hitting a tennis ball with a tennis raquet - you swing your arm/hand at a short distance at high speed and great effort so travels a great distance at an even higher speed. the distance the ball moves is large so the force by your arm/hand is small. hope this helps! :)speed multiplier- machine that requires a small movement of an effort to produce a large movement of a load, such as a third class lever.source: Pearson Science S.B

Why a machine should run with synchronous speed?

A synchronous motor is not self starting. However when it is provided with some prime mover ,which rotates it up to 80% of sync. speed, then it continues to rotate at sync.speed even after prime mover is removed. It happens so because rotor poles are locked with rotating magnetic field and hence the speed is always synchronous.

By moving in an angular motion.

A situation when you can accelerate but the cars' speed doesn't change?

"Acceleration" means a change of speed or direction. If the direction of your motion changes, then there is acceleration, even if your speed doesn't change.

How does a skater not accelerate?

By not changing their speed. Technically, this means also not changing their velocity, which includes direction. So, you don't accelerate if you skate in a straight line at a constant speed. Otherwise, you are accelerating, even if your speed does not change.

What acceleration of a car accelerate even thought your speed don't change?

If the car is moving at a constant speed but is changing direction, it is accelerating. Acceleration is change in velocity, and velocity includes magnitude (speed) and direction.

Why do you consider a moving object to accelerate even when it slows down or chnges direction without changing speeed?

Because that's the definition of "accelerate". "Accelerate" doesn't mean "speed up", although that's how everybody who rides in a car uses the word. "Accelerate" means "change the speed or the direction of motion, or both".

How can you accelerate if your speed does not change?

A change in the vector or direction that you are traveling is considered an acceleration; even if you don't change speed. This would be the case for going around in a merry-go-round, e.g. You are accelerating (changing direction), but the speed is constant (velocity is changing).

How can object accelerate when it does not change speed?

Let's review some terms before we tackle this one. Speed is displacement per unit of time. We know 60 miles per hour is a speed. Velocity is speed with a direction vector associated with it. We know 60 miles per hour east is velocity. Acceleration is a change in velocity. That means if an object changes its speed or its direction or both, it is accelerating. If an object has a given velocity and it slows down or speeds up, it is accelerated. But if the same object changes direction without a change in speed, it is still experiencing acceleration. A force had to act on the object to change its direction, even though its speed didn't change. Thus, an object can accelerate even though it does not change speed.

Why does a boat accelerate faster when the speed is slow?

Acceleration is a quotient of the change in velocity per interval of time. Therefore, as long as there is enough accelerative force to have a high quotient, then speed does not affect acceleration.HOWEVER, in reality, such forces are not unlimited. Also, one must consider drag (aerodynamic and aquadynamic). So, yes, a boat (or car, or Olympic runner) will accelerate more swiftly from a slow speed to a high one, than from a high speed to an even higher one.

What happens to the velocity of an object even if the speed of an object remains constant?

Velocity can change even if speed is constant.

How is acceleration related to changing speed?

Acceleration can be either a change in speed or a change inthe direction of the motion even if speed doesn't change.a=dv/dt
