In 1915, new technology had once again created weapons that were more powerful and deadly than the old ones. For one thing, in April 1915, Germany began using poison gas as a weapon. The gas burned lungs & blinded eyes. Soon, both sides used gases against each other. Germany continued developing deadly gases.

New weapons were more powerful and killed more people. New weapons were a part of militarism, which was one of the main causes of WWI. Militarism made more countries enter the war. The countries were siding with their allies but also feared that if they didn't help their allies, their allies would turn on them. World War One became bigger and more devastating because more countries joined. If more countries hadn't joined, then it would have been a smaller war that didn't last as long - or kill as many people.
