each molecule moves around its own location (often said to vibrate) at a speed that depends on the temperature of the object.
If the temp gets high enough, then the molecule(s) can break loose of the bonds that hold them in place ... either liquefying or evaporating.
At absolute zero they don't move, theoretically (for that temp has never been reached).

∙ 13y agoIn solid substance molecules are joined with each other by various chemical bonds may be strong or weak chemical bonding. Melting point of that sample depends on this bonding. If molecules are joined by strong bond melting point will be high and vice versa.

∙ 13y agoIt depends on the type of solid. All molecules in solid form have what is called vibrational movement, meaning the move in fixed positions. In some solids the forces of attraction between the molecules are strong enough to keep the molecules in a relatively fixed position but allow some moment of molecules past one another. If the forces between molecules weaken enough to allow more fluid movement, then the solid becomes a liquid.
