Let off the accelerator pedal, put the right signal switch on, maintain control as you move to the right side of the road, apply brakes gently as you slow down, come to a complete stop in the break down lane (right shoulder of the road), put it in park and turn on emergency flashers.

When the tire bursts, it is important to hold the steering wheel steady as you gently brake to slow down. Pull off to the side of the road, or into a parking lot to change the tire. If the flat is on the driver's side this is especially important. Put on your emergency hazard lights to alert drivers coming up to your car.

If you have a loved one who drives lots, buy them 'tire insurance' so they don't have to do it themselves. =My wife can call for free, professional help with a flat from any company in our area, and it only cost me $26 on my annual policy.

Bring the vehicle to a stop as safely and quickly as you can. Move it as far off the road surface as you can. Jack it up and change the tire.

Grab the wheel with both hands and coast to a stop. If you brake hard you are likely to spin out.
