With the possible exception of Santa Claus himself, nobody in the recording industry merits the title ( Mr. Christmas) more than Bing Crosby. Crosby recorded and went big time with White Christmas and many other Christmas songs. he did one of the earlier versions of ( Do you hear what I hear? This song was also recorded by Robert Goulet, among others.
Certainly no other popular entertainer sold as many Christmas records! It should be noted, there are numerous Theological flaws in not only White Christmas, but many of Crosby"s yuletide songs. Some- such as Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas- play up the commercial angle- Five and Ten, toys in every store, etc- but seem to imply the Christmas Spirit is both Man-Made and endogenous which is not the message one associates with (Gloria), or O Holy Night) One of his songs-Home for the holidays- sounds like a trade song for say, Howard Johnson"s- if you analyze the song- it does not specifically mention Christmas or even Christmas customs- It is only accidental that Interstate Travel is a Christmas Custom!- again a resemblance to (beginning) It may have originally been written for Thanksgiving.- also it targets American scene- not Jackie Gleason show- and one wonders if nationalism has ANY place in a Christmas song- given its Cosmopolitan aspect.
The kind of Christmas that Bing Crosby is dreaming of is a white Christmas. This is referring to his song of course.
