Wrong country.........it was the invasion of POLAND, in September 1939, that set off WW2. On September 1, 1939, Germany in pursuit of imperial control and without warning, launched a ruthless attack on Poland by land and air. Two days later, Britain and France declared war on Germany. Germany's ally was Russia, and when they defeated Poland both countries partitioned Poland.
He first first said he only wanted to acquire land just inside Czechoslovakia. This area was called the Sudetenland. It was a protective military barrier but most of the population was German-speaking. Hitler met with Neville CHamberlain, the prime minister of Great Britain, who told him that Great Britain would not stop the Germans from seizing this land, which they would have acquired by the people's consent anyway because they were German. He then proved that his intentions were not just to bring all of the Germans back to Germany, but to expand. He invaded Czechoslovakia on March 1939, the democracy, after seizing Sudetenland, which was easy to do because there protective barrier was gone. Great Britain stopped Germany from taking the whole country for a while, but into WWII it was all seized along with Austria, Poland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, and many other nations surrounding Germany.
After the Munich agreemeent of 1938 in which Hitler was given control of the Sudetenland by France and Britain, Czechoslovakia had lost most of its defensive fortresses and industry making them weak and vulnerable to German attacks. In 1939, the slovaks demanded more rights and the then Czechoslovakian president Emil Hacha appealed to Hitler for help and invited him in to restore order. On 15 March1939 the Nazis marched into Prague and took control.
Before Hitler invaded Poland, he took Czechoslovakia and Austria. People were tired of war and wanted to hope that would be as far as Hitler would go. Neville Chamberlain of the United Kingdom was accused of Appeasement. But a line in the sand was drawn. France and the United Kingdom agreed that if Hitler took Poland, they would declare war.
Because it was a threath to his "Superior Race" and because it was in his way.
The invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1939 was important to the Nazis. It was the first country Hitler invaded and it was taken very easily.
