The short answer is no-one knows; very little is known for sure about the life of Shakespeare. Some people believe he may have visited Italy because several of his plays are based there, on the other hand, some of the descriptions of the Italian towns mentioned in the plays are wildly inaccurate which makes it appear unlikely that he'd actually been there.

No one knows for sure. Although Shakespeare wrote action that took place in Venice (Othello and Merchant of Venice), there is no record of his having been there.
