Although the goal of uniting the Korean peninsula under communist rule was unsuccessful, North Korea and its Communist allies still consider the conflict a victory because North Korea's government survived and exists to this day.

The armistice signed on July 27, 1953, formally ended the war in Korea. However, there was no winner. The country was divided into North Korea and South Korea, and in fact, the North Koreans still consider themselves at war with South Korea.

What was one effect of the stalemate in the Korean War within the US What was one effect of the stalemate in the Korean War within the US?

What was one effect of the stalemate in the Korean War within the United states

What event started the Korean war and when was it?

The background of the Korean War is complex. Originally, Korea was controlled by Japan during the war. After World War II, the United States and Soviet Union divided Korea into two districts (much like how Germany was divided in Europe), a communist north, and a more pro-western south. These two districts became their own countries. With tensions between the US and USSR rising, both sides wanted as many allies as they could get, in as many places as they could get them. On June 25, 1950 the Korean People's Army stormed across the 38th parallel (the international dividing line between the two countries) in an effort to re-unify Korea. Fighting continued until July 27, 1953 when a cease-fire was signed. Because no peace treaty was ever signed, the war is technically still in progress to this day.

Who won the Korean War and did South Korea become communist?

The US won the Korean War and South Korea is a republic similar to ours. The US did not win the Korean war. See "Who actually won the Korean War?" Better answer. South Korea won the Korean War With the Help of Britain, Autralia and USA Neither side won the Korean War, although at first it seems like North Korea was winning and then the South was. It was a tie because there was a stalemate for two years between the two sides.

Why did no one win the Korean war?

Who ever said that never did their homework. The Republic of South Korea (ROK) was preserved & the communists failed to take their objective (which was South Korea). An obvious US/UN victory.

American politics Korean War?

The number one issue was fighting a limited war without the use of atomic weapons; which the military wanted to use. The US military wanted to fight a total war, in order to win, and use atomic weapons if needed. Korea was the US's FIRST war since WW2, and in the eyes of the US military...wars were fought to win (with A-bombs if necessary). After World War II The United States had about 40,000 troops in South Korea. These numbers quickly dwindled to about 472, most of which were officers. These men made up the Korean Military Advisory Group, which equipped the South Korean army with light weapons, while the communist north had tanks and heavy weapons. The United States had completed their withdrawal from South Korea and announced to the world that they would defend Japan, the Rykus Islands and the Philippines if they were attacked. They made no mention of the Republic of Korea. This announcement was made on January 5th, 1950. North Korea was confident that if they attacked the ROK, the United States would not intervene. On June 25th ,1950, North Korea attacked South Korea without warning. The Korean War was the first war of the nuclear age. On June 27th,1950 President Harry S. Truman took action and requested that the United Nation call on the countries of the world to unite and drive the North Koreans out of the Republic of Korea. Truman recognized a legitimate threat to the free world. On a deeper level, The United States fighting on the South Korean Side, and the Russians, fighting on the North Korean side, used the war to fight each other without turning the Cold War into a hot war.

What would happen if South Korea invaded North Korea?

First, South Korea alone will not be able to win the war by themselves against the North. There were actually a plan ,or a senario, made by the USA, Bush Govt. First, South Korea will bomb the North and try to engage in a war state with the North Korea. By the time when the nuclear or whatever missile drops back in Seoul, South Korea by the North Korean, they would have not enough left then to attack to defend their country. Simply, later, USA will ally with South Korea and engage in a war too. By that time, North Korea will have no chance of winning the battle. After the war will be over, I probably think UN will take over the country and manage the land. That's about it.
