Is stock for General Telephone and Electronics any good in 2009?

Aside from the antique nature of having one or more stock certificates from an old company, no, the stock is no longer any good. When the company transitioned from General Telephone and Electronics to GTE Corporation, there would have been a stock swap from the old to the new company. If an individual did not do so within a period of time (typically one-to-two years in the early 1980s), the certificates became worthless. If; however, you held your stock with a broker (there were no on line brokerages in those days), they would have done the exchange on your behalf and you would likely have received GTE Corporation stock. Moving to today, GTE Corporation merged with Bell Atlantic in 2000 to become Verizon Communications. As a result, you would have received some Verizon Communications stock and some payment for the value of companies spun off from/not kept by the Verizon entity.

Who was the founder of Verizon Wireless?

Its difficult to say who the actual founder of Verizon Wireless was. Perhaps it would be better to trace the roots of the company which leads on one branch all the way back to Alexander Graham Bell, and on another traces roots through mergers of several other electric companies including GTE and Sylvania. Check an interesting link on the subject below.

Who administers GTE pensions?

I checked on this last year. The current adminsitrator is AON, who acquired Hewitt, who was Verizon's pension adminsitrator. I called them last year, and they were NOT helpful, they would not provide me with any information and said I would have to get an earnings statement from Social Security and send it to them so they could calculate my pension. I have another pension with Aegon, who acquired Transamerica. Their Administrator, Diversified Investment Services, provided me with the information I requested regarding that pension within a few days/ I suspect that Verizon wants to make it difficult for former GTE employees to track down their pensions --
