In early American history, millions of people from all over Europe and Asia left everything behind for a chance in the new world. The fact that millions came answers the question. If it was so great where they were, why would they make such a sacrifice? Back then ocean crossings were brutal and expensive...many knew it was a one way trip for them, yet they still paid the price to obtain comparative freedom from tyranny. The exception of course is the ironic brutal existence of slavery in the U.S. just as it existed world wide in those times. Practically speaking however, not too many African Americans today can be seen re-locating back to Africa. For the ancesters, it was the greatest cruelty ever...however the reality is the sacrifice of African American ancesters made it possible for African Americans today to have the highest quality of life compared to any African nation you could compare it too. Ironically, if it wasn't for slavery occurring, many African Americans today would have been born instead in Africa. The segment of African Americans who continually complain about life here in the U.S. might consider how they might enjoy the alternative of being born elsewhere, where starvation, corruption, tyranny are still a way of life across the African continent.
