The US backed South Vietnam. During this time the north was supporting communism and in 1976, the countries reunified into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The US supported South Vietnam
Not sure how they were different but I do know that the US supported the south because we basically wanted to stop the spread of communism. The north was controlled by communists and we didn't want to south likewise
The US did not and does not support Vietnam. It trades with it on the open market (free trade) like anybody else. If you're asking about a "War" question, then which Vietnam are you asking about; North or South Vietnam?
The Americans did not make war with Vietnam. There was no Vietnam. There were two countries: NORTH Vietnam and SOUTH Vietnam. NORTH Vietnam attacked SOUTH Vietnam. The US (Americans) defended SOUTH Vietnam. The US never invaded NORTH Vietnam (the US bombed it though). NORTH Vietnam invaded SOUTH Vietnam. NORTH Vietnam was (and still is) a communist nation. The US was against communism.
The Communist North Vietnam acting in support and defence of the capitalist South Vietnamese.
There IS no North and South Vietnam, only Vietnam. After the US withdrew combat forces from South Vietnam, North Vietnam violated the peace agreement, invaded and conquered South Vietnam. Game over.
U.S. Navy conducted surveillance missions along the coast of North Vietnam. The government also supplied and trained South Vietnam for war. The U.S.A supported south Vietnam
The Republic of SOUTH Vietnam.
RVN, Republic of South Vietnam.
USA lost to north Vietnam not south. The south was their ally.
Vietnam is a war which the US definitely lost because the goal of the war was to support the Republic of Vietnam (aka South Vietnam) and prevent it from falling to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (aka North Vietnam). Despite massive effort and sacrifice on the part of the US, South Vietnam collapsed in 1975.
Technically between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Actually between the US and North Vietnam.
The US was an ally of South Vietnam; it was up to South Vietnam to repel the invasion from the north, with massive military assistance from the US (which, of course, ultimately failed).
With US/Allied aid, the South fought back. US Air Power BOMBED North Vietnam. US Navy warships SHELLED North Vietnam. South Vietnamese Air Force airplanes bombed and strafed in South Vietnam in support of ARVN/South Viet Marines/Rangers/etc. ground troops.
The USAF & USN bombed N. Vietnam. The USMC flew combat missions in support of Marines in SOUTH Vietnam. US Warships stationed off the coast of NORTH Vietnam were operating in "Yankee Station." US Warships stationed off the coast of SOUTH Vietnam were designated "Dixie Station."
The Vietnam War or Second Indochinese War was a military engagement between North Vietnam and its allies (principally China and the USSR) and South Vietnam and its allies (principally the United States). From the South Vietnamese and US perspective, North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam in an attempt to annex it. From the North Vietnamese perspective, North Vietnam was liberating South Vietnam from illegal US occupation and manipulation.
north Vietnam took over south Vietnam
North VN vs South VN; US helped the South.
North Vietnam was the scene of the AIR WAR during the Vietnam War. N. Vietnam was bombed by air units from the US Navy and US Air Force. US Marine Corps units bombed in South Vietnam in support of their ground Marines. North Vietnam defended itself in North Vietnam with SAM sites and NVAF MiG 17, 19, and MiG 21 jet interceptors.
North Vietnam wanted to take over South Vietnam. North Vietnam was communist rule and South Vietnam was supported by us, the United States.
No the US was not communist in the Vietnam War. The US fought with South Vietnam against the communist north. and we lost
The US helped the SOUTH Vietnamese. The North was the enemy!
