Yes, there is often weight loss with hyperthyroidism due to increased metabolism of all the cells in the body. Some patients have mild hyperthyroidism that doesn't result in decreased weight. Rarely, some patients may experience weight gain, often due to increased ability to absorb nutrients from the gut.

While there isn't solid research that suggests dietary restrictions for hyperthyroid patients,

there are some diets that can help reduce certain symptoms associated with thyroid conditions.

Keep in mind that it's important to talk to a doctor regarding lifestyle changes, including diet, when

taking thyroid medication. For more, please read this related article: Diets for Thyroid Patients.

The body is in complete overdrive. Everything working in excess. Rapid heart rate, tremors, elevated temperature, thoughts and speech speed up, you can't sit still, so basically you are constantly burning huge amounts of energy. I would have people tell me how lucky I was to have an overactive thyroid. They had no idea how debilitating it actually is/was, not a fun way to avoid weight gain.
