An atom consists of a nucleus (containing one or more protons and zero or more neutrons) and some number of electrons. Atoms have the same number of protons and electrons, because otherwise, you would have an ion.

A molecule consists of two or more atoms bonded together.

Atoms are single units of elements.

Molecules are agglomerations of two or more atoms (of the same or different elements). A molecule is the smallest particle of a chemical compound. Molecules are formed by atoms in a multitude of different arrangements.

- Most atmospheric oxygen forms diatomic molecules (O2), but also ozone (O3)

- One molecule of water has one atom of hydrogen and two atoms of oxygen. So-called heavy water contains deuterium, which is hydrogen that has neutrons.

- A molecule of potassium permanganate have one atom of potassium, one atom of manganese and four atoms of oxygen which give the molecule the structural formula KMNO4
An atom(element) can not be broken down by chemical processes except for radioactive decay. A molecule is made up of atoms ie H2O (water) is two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. H2O can be broken down into the hydrogen atom and oxygen atom but no further.

An atom is the most basic level of matter and is found in both living and nonliving things. Its name literally means unable to divide. It is made up of protons positive particals, nuetron netral particals and electrons the much smaller negitive particals. In an atom the protons and neutrons are in the center and the elctrons circle the atom in the electron clould. The molecule is a compound that's made of two or more atoms and is formed by a covalent or sharing bond between the electrons of two or more types of atoms. The difference is that the atom is smaller and is the most basic unit while the molecule is slightly more complex. Take the most common compound, water it is made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom the larger oxygen atom shares some electrons with the two smaller hydrogen atoms.

The difference? One exists and the other does not.

There is no such thing as an atom of water. Water is a molecule made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

A molecule of oxygen has two oxygen atoms.

A molecule of water has only one oxygen atom, but it also has two hydrogen atoms which together form a sort of "V" shape.

The difference is that an atom is the smallest of the small and they are PARTS OF molecules. Molecules are the second smallest particle, because atoms are the smallest.

A molecule consists of several atoms, not the other way around.

What is the difference between an atom a molecule and an element?

An atom is a nucleus of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting around. An element is an atom with a specific amount of protons, neutrons, and electrons. A molecule is a bunch of atoms stuck together.

What is difference between potassium atom and molecule?

an atom is a nucleus,[ nutrons and protons] and a number of electrons whirring around it. a molecule is a combination of two or more atoms to make something new

What is the difference between a hydrogen atom and a hydrogen molecule?

A hydrogen atom is made from 1 hydrogen atom while a hydrogen molecule is made by 2 hydrogen atoms in a chemical compound thus making it twice as big too.

What is the difference between a chlorine atom and a chlorine molecule?

A chlorine molecule consists of two chlorine atoms bound together by a covalent bond. The symbol of a chlorine molecule is Cl2.

How can an atom not be a molecule?

A molecule is composed of one or more atoms that are properly bonded to each other. If a molecule contains more than one atom, each atom is then a partial molecule as opposed to a whole molecule. Therein lies the difference.

What is difference between an atom and a monoatomic molecule?

Diatomic molecule is a molecule that is made up of only 2 atoms. Triatomic molecule is a molecule that is made up of only 3 atoms. Thus, the difference is that a diatomic molecule is made up of only 2 atoms while a triatomic molecule is made up of only 3 atoms.

What is the difference between a atom and molecules?

An atom is the smallest piece of an element that can exist as that element. A molecule is a joining of two or more atoms in a chemical bond. There can be two of the same type of atoms in a molucule, as in a molecule of oxygen, 02.
