Excel is a spreadsheet program, and PowerPoint is a program for making slide shows.
Power Point:

  • A multimedia maker
  • Generally used to make slide shows
  • Also capable of making "mini games"
  • You can import pictures and text into it
  • You can use different formats and functions

Exel:

  • A data base creator
  • Generally used to make lists and address books
  • Also capable of mail mergeing
  • You can import pictures and text into it
  • You can use mostly tables

So as you can see they are mostly different, I myself prefer PowerPoint in most projects though!!!

Microsoft Word is a word processor used mostly for text documents. Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation software mostly used for graphic presentations. You can add text to it, just like you can add a graphic to MS Word, but you wouldn't want to write a book in PowerPoint.

Power point is a slide show and has multiple pages. Prezi presents by zooming around a single page. Also Power Point is an application and Prezi is online. That makes Power Point have less glitches. Prezi is free and I don't think Power Point is. Power Point has more tools but Prezi is easier to make, and is just getting started, while Power Point is pretty old.

MS Office is a collection of programs (called Applications) that includes 1) MS Word (also called WinWord)--for writing text documents, adding tables, adding pictures or drawings; 2) Excel--a SpreadSheet for making tables that can include calculations; 3) Power Point--to make slide shows that can include sound, speech, music effects; and 4) Outlook--to handle e-mail.

So Power Point is just one element or "Application" in the package.

There are several versions or editions of Microsoft Office issued two or three years apart. The newer versions contain added features. Older versions usually cannot open work produced by a newer version but newer versions can open work produced by an older version.

There are numerous other "Applications" that Microsoft produces and are available as separate "Applications" such as: 1) Publisher--for composing newspapers, greeting cards, banners; 2) Access--to make architectural drawing, maps, etc.; 3) Visio--to make a manageable collection of information (a database); 4) Front Page--to make web sites; and several more "Applications".

All of the above have to run in the Windows operating system. There are similar collections available that are not produced by Microsoft.
