first off Country Music isnt real country music anymore. the new country music is old rock with some country instruments. plus the new country music is written by other people. artists that do their own music is very slim to none. brad paisley and Taylor Swift are like the only ones. original country was like johnny cash. folk music uses alot of different instrument and scales. folk music uses cultural instruments such as the lute, flute, bagpipes, washboard, bongos, mandolin, recorder. (generally woodwind instruments and old string instruments. the "new" country uses acoustic guitar, Electric Guitar, piano, drum set, banjoes, fiddles, dobros, and harmonicas. folk music is music and "new" country isnt music. just 3 major chords alternated in an 8 to 16 measure change.folk music uses alot of different changes and 3/4 patterns.

Folk and Country Music are one in the same. Country Music as an art form was derived from the old folk songs sung by Mountain folk, Farmers, Sharecroppers, and can even be traced to days of Slavery.

A.P. Carter, the head of the Legendary "Carter Family" who some credit as the founders of Country Music, travelled around the Country "a lot in the rural south" bringing songs back from Appalachian musicians, "Hill Folk". He made it his mission to bring these songs to the masses, because in those days the songs would have otherwise been lost. The poor Mountain musicians didn't have telephones, and without cars they traveled no further than their own small communities.

During this time, "Hillbilly Music" as it was referred to then began to gain popularity. It wasn't until the 1940's that we began to call it Country Music as the term hillbilly had become degrading and stereotyped. As the music continued to gain some mainstream popularity we spawned legendary artists such as Gene Autry, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams Sr, and then later Superstars like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and so on.

There's not much of a difference in Folk and Country music.. Folk artists occasionally find their way into the mainstream music industry machine, for the most part Folk Music is a sub-corporate genre more concerned with community involvement and speaking for the people than in record sales and image consultants. While country music evolved out of the folk music tradition, and continues to influence it in hindsight. However, much of contemporary country is far more relatable to Pop Music than to folk. The difference is the involvement of big business in the development of country stars' careers.
