Arabians are said to have fewer vertebrae than other breeds but that is incorrect. Many Arabian horses have fused bones in their spine that makes it look like they have one less, but it's not true.

Arabians like all horses can have between 5 and 6 sacral vertebrae which form the sacrum. The difference in the numbers is due mainly to one of the bones fusing to the other and thus appearing to be only 5 instead of 6.
