No. Many Tibetan Buddhists are nomads, and subsist on meat, cheese and barley products. While they are mindful that killing any sentient being is not a skillful means toward achieving enlightenment, they deduce that it is their karma to live in a place where it is necessary to kill to survive. A Buddhist living in a place where it is possible to spare animals' lives by being vegetarian could accumulate merit by doing so, but it is not required.

Answer:

Because they love life all life

Answer:

Buddhists are not necessarily vegetarians. The rules are not that binding and individuals can make their own choices. In some countries, such as Tibet, meat is essential for the diet as there is not enough vegetable food. In all Buddhist cultures it is necessary to eat whatever food is presented to you. The Buddha himself is said to have died from eating pork that was spoiled because it was offered to him.

In general the prohibition is:

  • tp refrain from killing sentient beings,
  • to refrain from requesting food that would require the killing of an animal,
  • to avoid eating the flesh of animals which are raptors or carnivores.

Most are, yes.

1. Not all Hindus are vegetarians. Although eating animals is not entirely forbidden in Hinduism, the religion encourages people to be vegetarian. Eating animals is allowed only as a survival means when there is a drought or famine and any animal in its reproductive age cannot be killed.

2. The religion promotes ahimsa, or non-violence. Violence must be reduced as much as possible to avoid bad karma.

3. Personal preference, but Hindus do not eat cows; they are considered a humans "second mother" because they provide milk and the males help the farmers till the ground to plant crops.

4. If being a vegetarian helps you keep your mind on God and keeps your body healthy, then it is good. If it makes you fanatical about those who are not vegetarians or it weakens your health, then it is not good. The point is to do whatever helps you think of God and whatever keeps you healthy to be of service to others and to pursue spiritual practices.

5. Most Hindus are vegetarian because they believe the way animals are killed is wrong also they spend a lot of time in the sun and meat will just make them hotter.

6. They think that God is present in all animals of the Earth and it would be a crime to kill a life which is why most of them don't allow themselves and their families to have anything non-vegetarian. It is considered as a sin to have non-vegetarian in most Hindu families. But all don't share the same belief.

Consider that any animal might be one of their ancestors.

80% of India's population are Hindu, 34% are vegetarian.

correction to above Hinduism Vegetarianism and violence:

Shikshapatri written by God Swaminarayan (1781 to 1829)

My followers shall never kill any living being under any circumstances, knowingly, not even small insects like lice, bugs, etc.

(My followers) shall never kill goats and/or other living beings in sacrifice performed for the propitiation of deities and Pitris (ancestors), for non-violence is declared (by the Shastras) as the highest Dharma of all the Dharmas.

None shall ever kill a human being for obtaining women, wealth or even sovereignty.

None shall ever commit suicide even in a place of pilgrimage or through anger or on account of some untoward action by taking poison or by hanging or by falling into a well or from a hill-top or by any other means.

None shall ever eat meat, even if it be an offering in a sacrifice or shall ever drink liquor or wine even if it be offered to a deity.

When an untoward action is committed either by oneself or by others, none shall through anger or excitement cut or mutilate one's limbs or limbs of other persons by means of any kind of weapon.

etc....

This SHIKSHAPATRI is written by Me on Vasant Panchami i.e. on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Maha of V.S. 1882 and is indeed all auspicious.

God Swaminarayan told Niskulanand swami to write Yamdand for Karma and it's fruit of sin:

Buddhists are extremely varied. You may find there are Buddhists who do not eat vegetables. However, there is no Buddhist Rule against eating vegetables. There is also no Universal Buddhist Rule against eating meat (the Buddha ate meat).

While some Buddhists are vegetarians others, whether by circumstance or personal choice, are not. Buddhism does not have a lot of "must do" rules. It offers several thoughts on being vegetarian as a preferable dietary system, but there are no punishments associated with eating meat. Generally a Buddhist will eat whatever is given him (the Buddha himself is said to have died after eating spoilled meat given to him as a meal), but should avoid requesting that meat be provided or that an animal be killed for his consumption.

What types of Buddhists are vegetarian?

There are many Buddhist traditions. Some are vegetarian and some aren't. Even within a single tradition, some sanghas (communities of practitioners) are vegetarian and some aren't. For example, some Zen Buddhists are vegetarian and some aren't. So there's no general answer that can be given to this question. There is no consensus because there is no common creed in Buddhism. Instead, the Buddha gave his followers recommended practices and instructed them to find out for themselves. He did tell his followers not to kill but to cherish all life. However, he himself was a mendicant, and, when someone gave him meat, he ate it. .

Do Buddhists eat pizza?

They may do. Buddhists vary widely in the diets they adopt. While monks and nuns are usually vegetarian, or even vegan, there is no reason why they can't have vegetarian pizza. Other followers of the faith have much wider diets, including meat, so I'm sure many of them enjoy pizza.

What should you make as food for a Buddhists?

In preparing food for anyone it is best to check for allergies or preferences before organizing the meal. This is as true for Buddhists as any other guests you may have. Many people think Buddhists eat only plain rice or hold to a strictly vegetarian diet (with no exceptions). In truth Buddhists are inclined to a vegetarian diet as eating meat implies that animals have suffered. This does not hold true in all cases. HH the Dalai Lama only came to a strictly vegetarian diet later in life as, in Tibet (his homeland), the opportunity for pursuing such a diet is limited. The only foods outside of a Buddhist's diet would be alcoholic drinks, and food prepared from animals slaughtered specifically at the request of the Buddhist. It is a point of propriety that Buddhists will eat whatever food is given to them in good faith - as is demonstrated by the story that the Buddha himself died of eating tainted meat given to him for a meal.

Are buddists vegetarian?

Vegetarianism is not a part of the Buddhist religion, but many Buddhists do choose this route out of compassion. Buddhism teaches to refrain from killing, but does not specify the conditions if the animal is already dead. It is mostly a matter of personal preference.
