Yes, salsa is culturally associated with Mexican cooking.
I spent a summer living in Pasadena, Texas when I was younger. The Mexican family that were are neighbors took me in and their mom was always feeding me some sort of awesome home cooked Mexican meal. Three things she always had on hand was homemade tortillas, beans of some sort, and salsa.

Ingredients
- 1 ea 8 oz. can tomato sauce
- 2 T Crushed red chili
- 1/2 t Cumin powder
- 1/2 t Oregano
- 1 t Salt
- 2 ea Garlic cloves, minced (or
- 1/4 t Garlic powder)
- 2 t Vinegar
- 1 ea Juice of half a lemon
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Let stand for 3 hours. Excellent with tacos or as a dip for tortilla chips.
