Yes it has to have sunlight, or imatated sunlight as the light causes the water to split, which is needed by the plant to make food ( c6h12o6) its a long process but yes it needs light. Hence the name PHOTOsynthesis

No, chlorophyll is used as the means to start photosynthesis. All the reactions of photosynthesis occur on the thylakoid membrane proteins (the light reactions) or in the stroma of the chloroplasts (the Calvin-Benson cycle). This applies to cells with chloroplasts. In photosynthetic cells that don't have chloroplasts (or any other specialized cell organelles), the reactions of photosynthesis occur across a cellular membrane and an open space.

Not all steps in photosynthesis occur in or need sunlight. It is only needed in the light reaction phase where ATP and NADPH need to be produced.

Do all the cells of plants contain chlorophyll?

Most, but not all plant cells contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll requires light in order for photosynthesis to occur, it make no sense then that plants produce chlorophyll in cells where no sunlight can reach; for this reason root cells and tissues do not contain chlorophyll

How do roots which are not green contribute to photosynthesis?

The roots absorb water from the ground; water is one of the main ingredients for photosynthesis. They also provide all of the other nutrients and minerals required to make the chlorophyll, for the synthesis to occur in the first place.

Where in the leaf does almost all photosynthesis occur?

Almost all photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts, specifically in the chlorophyll molecules located in the mesophyll cells of the leaf. The mesophyll cells are located in the middle layer of the leaf, where they are well exposed to light.

Does photosynthesis take place only in the chloroplast?

Neither of those processes require chlorophyll; especially respiration. It should be noted, however, that chlorophyll is commonly used to absorb light during photosynthesis in plants. While there are some archae and bacteria that can perform photosynthesis without chlorophyll, it is used in virtually all plants.

Where is a nucleus?

The palisade cell's nucleus is located in the cytoplasm area. Whilst the nucleus controls what the cell does, the cytoplasm is a jelly-like material or substance where all the chemical reactions occur. The nucleus is surrounded or close to chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll for the process of photosynthesis.

Where do the reactions of photosynthesis happen?

They occur first within the cytochrome biochemical photosynthetic Enzymes that reside within the Thylacoid membrane systems that reside within the Grana and Stroma of the Chloroplasts that reside within photosynthetic Organisms.

Do all green plants photosynthesis?

Almost all plants use photosynthesis, even some without chlorophyll. But green plants would not be green if they were not using chlorophyll-based photosynthesis.

What is the cell organelle involved in the process of photosynthesis?

Chlorophyll is the pigment most associated with photosynthesis. It's stored in an organelle known as a chloroplast. The chloroplasts are found all throughout the cell, as each cell containing chloroplast might contain 10 to 100 of them.

Where do the two stages of photosynthesis occur?

The second step of photosynthesis happens between the chloroplasts, rather than inside of them. This particular step is also independent of light, so if the light suddenly goes away for some reason, it doesn't totally stop the photosynthesis all at once.

Whether plants with non green leaves have chlorophyll and can they carry out photosynthesis?

Plants with non green leaves do have chlorophyll and do carry out photosynthesis. It is just that the chlorophyll is masked by other pigments.

Why do all plants contain chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is a pigment that makes photosynthesis in the plant and without photosynthesis there would be no glucose, oxygen, and water from the plant and the plant would ultimately die
