Rabbits are social animals. In the wild, rabbits need to be with other rabbits or else they won't survive very long. Pet rabbits need society, too, although it doesn't have to be from other rabbits - you, the human owner, can be your rabbit's society, along with anyone else in your household, including other pets (so long as they're all friendly, and only ever under your supervision).

It can be a good idea to "bond" your rabbit with another rabbit, though, because they will provide each other with society, comfort, love, and happiness, and this will take some of the pressure off you to socialize with your bunny (but not all the pressure! You should still play and snuggle with your rabbits every day, and observe their health and wellbeing so you can catch any early warning signs of ill-health).

Bonding rabbits can be a long, hard process or a short, easy one - it depends on the individual bunnies involved. Never let your rabbits fight because even a small wound can lead to a big abscess; also, fighting can hurt their mental health. An important step in bonding rabbits is to have them all neutered/spayed - otherwise, they'll probably fight and/or breed.

Rabbits are social animals. In the wild, rabbits live in big groups (called "warrens"), so in terms of their behaviours and wellbeing, rabbits are adapted to living with others. However, rabbits are also very territorial, and in captivity where they're kept in close quarters, rabbits will fight -- even to the death!

So, while rabbits have social needs that must be filled somehow, there are also dangers associated with keeping rabbits with other animals -- you can't just throw them in together! Instead, you have to follow certain procedures and take certain precautions so that everyone is safe and happy.

Some people believe that bunnies are happier with a friend because they have someone to play with and bunnies will run around and get more playful with a friend. Also, two bonded bunnies will comfort each other in difficult times (e.g. during illness or a stressful event). But if the rabbit has no other animal friends around, she can still be perfectly happy and comfortable because you (the rabbit's owner) will be her friend! This means you put aside extra time every day to interact with your bunny: by playing, snuggling, and grooming -- especially in times of stress.

(Note: All rabbits, including ones that live with other rabbits, need some of your time every day -- not just for socializing, but so you can observe their health and behaviour, and catch any problems before they become emergencies. Rabbits also need exercise time every day, and unless you've set up a very safe and perfectly "proofed" exercise area, this means you need to supervise them.)

Bonded Rabbits

Keeping two rabbits together means "bonding" them -- this means you can trust them not to fight. Bonding almost always means the rabbits must be spayed/neutered first. Even spayed/neutered rabbits sometimes fight, though, so the bonding process must be done gradually and carefully.

Rabbits and Other Animals

Pet rabbits often have developed close friendships with other pets in the home, like cats, dogs, and guinea pigs. However, rabbits shouldn't be left unsupervised with other animals, no matter how well they get along. Rabbits can accidentally injure guinea pigs. Cats and dogs are predator animals, and rabbits are prey -- although domesticated, cats and dogs do retain some of their instincts, and you never know when they'll snap in. Too many friendships between rabbits and predator pets have ended in the rabbit's death when the owner isn't there to keep an eye on things. Don't be fooled into thinking you're the exception, even if you've done it with no problems for years. Better to be safe than sorry! Also, be careful about letting the animals outside together, even under supervision -- seeing a rabbit hopping through the grass is just too much for most dogs to ignore, and in the different surroundings the dog won't necessarily recognize its good friend the bunny.

if you keep your rabbit entertained and let it run about and it generally seems happy then no, however if it is stressed or cowards or has been adopted then yes. Generally some rabbits do not like others but it is possible to join them by rubbing some perfume on both so they have the same sent
