Best Answer

All animals that have legs in order to walk on land have two knees. The knees are only found on the hind legs, and for animals such as cows, horses, deer and elephants that look like they have four knees, the joints on the front legs are actually the wrist joint. Elongated bones allow such an animal to increase it's stretch and therefore capable in taking larger strides with minimal effort.

For most animals, particularly birds where the knees are usually completely hidden, the actual knees can be found quite far up on the leg, often right next to the animal's belly. The backwards-bending joint in the middle of the hind legs are actually the animal's ankle, often called the "hock" joint.
