Studies have shown that dogs are not colorblind, but they don't see the way humans do either. Dogs aren't able to distinguish between shades of red as well as humans can, but they're exceptionally good at picking different shades of blue that to human eyes appear almost exactly alike. Dogs do rather better on the shorter wavelengths (blues and purples) while having difficulty with the longer ones (reds and Oranges).
