After 10 years I can tell you. Some do and those that do do it very rarely. I've owned 2 beardies for 5 years and I've seen it once when they got into a spat. Then I looked it up and there are some anecdotes of other people seeing the same thing, but very rarely.

Which is good as its defensive behaviour and apperently few beardies are in situations that warrant such behaviour

no but if the beardie is not done growing the tail will grow with the rest of the body but the part that was lost will never grow back

Yes they do but there are few species of geckos that do not, such as the crested gecko. (Rhacodactylus Cilatus)
