They can make your nails brittle if you peel them off yourself.
i find gel nails, to be not harmful when they are on but when you take them off it will leave alot off damage to your existing nails!

∙ 12y agoGel nails do make your real nails look dry when you get them removed to put on a new set. They have a white, slightly flaky appearance, but this is partly the dried gel residue on the nail. I'm sure if you decided to not have a new set of gel nails, it wouldn't be long till your own nails had grown back as good as before. But who would do that! Gel nails are so much prettier ...

∙ 10y agoYes! People everywhere are getting cancer & tumors all over their hands (well, cancer effects the WHOLE body sometimes!) from gel nails from the UV lights! Also, 99.9% of nail salons are disgusting! They do NOT disinfect with BLEACH or correct cleansers! Wiping the tools down are not enough! Every tool should be SOAKED for 24 hrs. To be properly cleansed! NEVER use ANY of their tools or use their "Spa Pedicures"! They usually use the same stuff they washed your feet to "clean" it! They should use bleach! Best bet, DO THEM YOURSELF use products like Broadway Nails or KISS nails! The glue nails look SO much better! Oh, and ANYONE who uses a drill on your nasty real nail has NO idea what they're doing, and is permantly damaging your real nail for life! If you're smart, you WON'T go to nail shops!
