There are two breeds of goat that produce fibre - mohair is produced by Angora goats and Cashmere goats produce cashmere.
Hair or fibre
Goats are related to sheep for obvious reasons such as hoofs and horns, tails and fur (wool) but some think they are related to deer (more than they are to sheep) because deer have the same tail and they grow horns and they also have hooves while sheep have wool and deer have fur but goats don't have wool they have fur. Goats could also be related to horses through the hooves gene but that would be a short scientific reason why. We all originate from something!
You make wool from hair or fur. The hair from sheep, goats, Llamas, camels and even dogs and cats can be spun into wool.
Most commonly it is wool from sheep; sheep do not have fur, but, rather wool. Also, llamas, alpacas, and goats are all wool producers whose fleeces, coats and such are spun into yarn. Common fiber types you might have heard of: Merino wool comes from Merino sheep. Angora fiber comes from Angora rabbits. Mohair fiber comes from Angora goats. Cashmere fiber is cashmere goats. Rabbit, buffalo and camel are also used. Some people spin pet fur (dog and cat), though it usually has to be blended with some wool because of the short length of the individual hairs. Spun dog fur is called "chiengora." Recently New Zealand has started harvesting Bushtail Opossums, which are considered a pest there, for fur which is spun into yarn.
Angora goats
Goats do not produce wool - sheep do. Only certain breeds of goat produce fibre - cashmere goats produce cashmere and angora goats produce mohair - the amount of fibre produced depends on the goats size, age and nutrition.
most wool comes from goats. It is their hair.
Yes. Some breeds of goats produce wool. Angora goats produce mohair, and other breeds produce cashmere wool.
From sheep and goats mostley. People sheer them to get their wool.
Alligators grow scales and have neither fur nor wool.
Goats are raised for a number of things. They can be raised for goat milk, pets, lawn mowers or wool. They certainly can be raised for wool, but they are raised more for milk.
