Hermit crabs do need a night and day cycle to their lives to remain healthy. If one cannot provide a natural light during the day, one should invest in a light fixture. As for the night cycle one is not needed, but if one needs the extra warmth in the crabitat, one would use a moon glow bulb with a rare phosphorus coating to simulate the moon.

∙ 13y agoYes Hermit Crabs need a heat source but a lamp is not necessary. Pet stores have heating pads you can stick to the side of the tank to keep the crabitat 70-80degrees.
