No! Wrong kind of.

Hermit crabs need salt water but only once a week. If you don't it's fine but is highly recommended. I recommend HBH Hermit Crab Salt. You can get salt water at your local pet store so like Petsmart or Petco or any where else that has salt water. DON'T USE SALT WATER FROM THE OCEAN!

Hermit crabs don't really need salt water but it helps to have it. Hermit crabs use the salt water to soak in. It helps with there molting. If you have salt water for hermit crabs GREAT!!! If you don't that's "OKAY." Go out and buy some salt water for your hermit crabs. If you don't know where to get salt water you can got to your local pet shop and get something called hermit crab salt.

Yes, but do not use regular salt!!

Land hermit crabs need an ocean/sea water mix to mix their ocean water pond that is sold specifically for salt water fish tank. It contains the essentials hermit crabs need to maintain a healthy balance of water within their shells. They will mix their shell water between the ocean pond and fresh water pond to their need. The ponds should be large enough where they can climb in with ease and soak or fill their shells with water if they want/need to. Some crabbers, including myself, offer ponds large enough where the hermit crabs can completely submerge themselves but provide a safe secure way in and out of the ponds.

If you give them table salt or sea salt like we eat then yes. You have to buy a special Hermit Crab salt solution from your local pet store. They're cheap just follow the directions on the back of the bottle.

What does water hermit crabs look like?

Land Hermit Crabs consume fresh water. It is suggested by some pet stores to have two watering dishes. One for bottled fresh water and the other for bottled salt water. Do humans interact with crabs?

Interact? Hermit crabs and humans are not like. That being said however: Hermit Crabs and humans do both need to eat, and both have their own food pyramid they should eat from to remain healthy. Hermit crabs and humans both need to drink water so they do not become dehydrated. However, water needs to be safe as in hermit crabs if offered tap water needs to have a dechlorinator used to make it safe, whereas humans do not. Hermit crabs and humans both need a certain warmth to prevent hypothermia which can lead to harmful complications or death. Hermit crabs and humans both need salt in their diet even though it is a different type of salt. Hermit crabs need the elements found in ocean/sea water salt/salt mixes and humans need the iodine from salt.

Can hermit crabs have no iodine sea salt?

No. Crabs need ocean style salt water mixed with products you buy at the pet store. Table salt contains an anti-caking agent which can be harmful. Table salt also lacks the trace metals and minerals that are in the water mix that hermit crabs need.
