Currently, as of August 20, 2012 there is one active hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. Currently this hurricane, name Gordon, is moving toward Portugal but is expected to weaken and lose its tropical characteristics before hitting there so that it will not longer be a hurricane when it gets there.
There is also a tropical disturbance further south that is becoming better organized. If it continues to develop it could become a hurricane in the next few days. It is still too early to tell where it will go.
