Answer . Depends on the Country you practice. In the UK, I would say on average a tax barrister is the best paid legal job and barristers in general will earn more than a solicitor - until that solicitor reaches partnership.. Lawyers earn substantially more working in the commercial sphere than …in personal injury, crime or family. Laywers involved in personal injury and crime are normally high street practitioners. Lawyers specialising in corporate, funds, banking, arbitration and tax will make the most cash. Lawyers who work in large City firms will earn sometimes three times as much as their high street counterparts, with partners in the most prestigious firms earning in excess of 1 million.. In the US working for a "white shoe law firm" in New York will be the most highly rewarded job and also the most intense. Craveth Swaine & Moore and Watchell Lipton Katz, Sullivan & Cromwell all pay ridiculous salaries. ( Full Answer )

Apparently, the statistics are not entirely forthcoming on theinternet. But according to The Economist, a study of 29 countrieswas conducted in 2006 that showed the USA only behind Greece interms of per capita lawyers.. More recently, the American Lawyer reported that Israel has themost lawyers per… capita, and India has the most lawyers total. Ofcourse, the US isn't too far behind on either count.. I'm not sure where the information below came from, or if it isreliable, so take it with a grain of salt. (I think someone justlooked up the population and lawyer count for a these 8countries). U.S.A.: There is one lawyer for every 265 Americans. Brazil followsclosely with one lawyer for every 326 Brazilians. . Country Lawyers Population People/Lawyer 1) US: Lawyers: 1,143,358 Pop: 303MM P/L:265 2) Brazil: Lawyers: 571,360 Pop: 186MM P/L: 326 3) New Zealand: Lawyers: 10,523 Pop: 4MM P/L 391 4) Spain Lawyers:114,143 Pop: 45MM P/L:395 5) Italy Lawyers:121,380 Pop: 59MM P/L:488 6) UK Lawyers:151,043 Pop: 61MM P/L401 7) Germany Lawyers:138,679 Pop: 82MM P/L: 593 8) France Lawyers:45,686 Pop: 64MM P/L: 1,403 Among the 8 countries listed above, the US only has about 50% ofthe lawyers (37 percent of the total population). India alone hasover 1 million lawyers (more than the USA). Therefore, the US doesnot even come close to having 70% of the world's population oflawyers. Myth busted. But, with 2.2 million people in prisons, the US has a lawyer forevery two inmates. Considering the ridiculous rate at which theUnited States incarcerates, that is saying something. The lawyer number for the US comes from the ABA (active) for 2007.The lawyer number for Brazil comes from Brazilian's ABA equivalentOAB (active) for 2007. The population numbers were pulled on Jan2nd 2008 from Wikipedia.. ( Full Answer )

Truthfully, because most are liberal arts majors do not know what to do after graduating college and are mystified by the profession because television shows glamorize the profession, even though these same shows do not show all the grunt work that goes behind a trial or a court appearance. Answer… I don't know why most of them choose to be a lawyer but some choose it for the money, it can be a very interesting profession depending on the type of law they choose to practice, it's challenging and can be very rewarding even though it's a lot of hard work. The District of Columbia (Washington D.C.) has the most lawyers per capita, but D.C. isn't exactly a state. New York is the state with the most lawyers per capita.. My source is http://www.averyindex.com/lawyers_per_capita.php. Here are the top 3 on the list:. 1. D.C. with 276.7 per 10,000 reside…nts.. 2. New York: 20.4 per 10,000.. 3. Delaware: 18.4 per 10,000.. Though the answer to this question may be right, the supporting data I believe is wrong. I have seen this info provided by the Avery Index and it does not reconcile with the information provided by the ABA at:. http://www.abanet.org/marketresearch/2005nbroflawyersbystate.pdf.. So take Massachusetts for instance. The Avery Index reports 14.5 lawyers per 10,000 people. Since the population of MA is approximately 6.5 Million that would mean there should be about 9,425 lawyers in MA (6,500,000 / 10,000) * 14.5. But the ABA says there are about 49,000 lawyers in MA or about 5 times more than the Avery Index says which would put the number of lawyers per 10,000 people number at about 75 not 14.5.. As I said, the correct answer still looks to be New York but to be sure the ABA numbers need to be checked against the population of each state. ( Full Answer )

A lawyer is a person that practices various laws in the court in order to save their clients from the prison time and other illegal issues.
yes. Yes, for several reason. Most important is that the lawyer should be able to tell you if you are even guilty of careless driving. Sometimes tickets are issued for the highest offense posssible even though the actions in question might constitute a lesser offense such as unsafe driving.. A law…yer should also be able to tell you if, even though your driving was careless, that the state might not be able to prove the case. This sometimes happens when there are no eyewitnesses to the careless driving but the ticket is issued anyway.. A lawyer should be able to tell you what consequences you will face if you decide to plead guilty or if you plead innocent, go to trial and are found guilty. Depending on the circumstances, e.g. if there was property damage or personal injury, the penalties might be quite onerous, including imprisonment. In New Jersey in rare cases it can be up to 15 days in jail. That way you will know exactly what you are facing and be better able to decide on your course of action.. Finally, and perhaps more importantly, the lawyer will represent you in court whether you decide to plead guilty or not guilty. The judge and prosecutor will deal with the lawyer, not you. That will spare you from being intimidated into making a wrong decision. If you are going to be found guilty, the lawyer should do his best to minimize the penalties or at the very least ensure that you are not taken advantage of.. As an example, a client came to me with a careless driving ticket issued to him after an accident. The client felt that he had been careless and was worried what might happen if he either pleaded guilty or was found guilty. No one, not even the other driver, had witnessed the "careless driving" and the police officer was summoned to the scene later so he never saw it either. In court, the prosecutor said he would do my client a favor and let him plead to a lesser offense so that he got no points. I asked him who his witness was. He said he had no witness, but that there had been the accident. A person without knowledge of the law might have pleaded guilty, but I reminded the prosecutor (as if he didn't really know it already) that under New Jersey law, the mere occurrence of an accident is not proof of careless driving. Without any witnesses, the prosecutor had no choice but to dismiss the ticket with no penalties to the client, not even court costs. ( Full Answer )

Most lawyers are male because in our society men traditionally occupy high-power, high-status positions, like the law, politics and medicine. This is changing now that more women are achieving equality with men.. Because lawyers have always traditionally been men, it is hard for women to enter into… a male-dominated culture. This situation is changing and in the future we will see many more women lawyers. But currently, the people who practice law usually come from a time period when it was considered more appropriate for men to study and train to be lawyers. ( Full Answer )

Within the United States, It would take four years for the bachelor's degree, and three years of law school.
Pretty lowly for the most part, but the variety is possibly wider than you imagined. We're not talking the top top 1% of the top top law schools who get plum jobs for $150++K and get worked like horses 80+ hours a week.... Instead, we could be talking $30-40K on a good day in a lot of places. Most …first jobs as an attorney can be in a public (government or charity) law office or clinic, or private firm, maybe handling small matters under a partner's watchful eye, doing bits and pieces of things. Or you can be thrown right into the thick of things and have to sink or swim. It has a lot to do with the philosophy of the people you're working for: a lot of hand holding to make sure the client is taken care of and the neophyte attorney learns properly, or throw them to the lions! Very few attorneys who practice law can simply hang up a shingle anymore, unless they come to the situation with enough business from friends and family to form a "core" book. Then again there are a lot of attorneys who decide they just wanted the law degree (either on its own or as an adjunct to something else) and find a non-"law" job where their legal degree (and bar admission) is a plus. It could be in a bank, or health care company, or some other corporation that does not practice law itself but hires staff attorneys. ( Full Answer )

It all depends on how good a lawyer you are, and what kind of clients you represent. Government lawyers (prosecutors, public defenders, JAGs) are usually on the bottom of the pay scale. They get great benefits and a more stable work environment though, so it all evens out. Private practice lawyers… usually make more money, but their lives are usually a lot worse. Personal injury lawyers usually work on contingency, meaning they get paid a fraction of the settlement or the jury awarded damages. So their paycheck depends on what kind of cases they try. Consider a personal injury attorney whose client's wife was killed by a drunk driver. The client is suing for wrongful death of her husband. The jury is likely to give the client MILLIONS of dollars, and the lawyer takes a cut of that. But, during the time he is trying the case, he has no family life, no free time, no time to eat or sleep because he is conducting depositions, interviewing and preparing witnesses etc. And if he loses the trial and is working on a contingency basis, he gets NOTHING. So, long story short, it all depends. Corporate lawyers make a lot of money too. Think of all the money BP is going to spend on lawyers to help defend them from lawsuits from the gulf oil spill. Think of the amount of lawyers working for tobacco companies. I would say that corporate lawyers make the most money. ( Full Answer )
