The thought of being an adult can be scary to some, but weird probably not. Unless you the thought of getting older and your looks changing as you grow older is weird because of the body change but if not then it is probably not weird to others.

I think there are people who just dislike internet fandoms in general, as well as others being intolerant of anything viewed as "different" or "weird."

Because its a tradition. Just like you eat the food you do. They do also. Its a different part of the world. What you think is normal they may think is weird and vice versa. its a matter of perspective.
