Penguins live in the sea. They are aqua-dynamic birds. Penguins come to land to breed, where the male stacks loose stones in a sorta-circle and where the female lays eggs. Otherwise, exactly where the animals live is a scientific mystery.

No. Penguins inhabit mostly the Southern Hemisphere. However, some species inhabit the temperate zone, as far north as the Galapagos Islands, off the mainland of Ecuador.

The extinct Icadyptes salasis lived in the Atacama Desert of Peru. Fossilized remains were found there along with the Perudyptes devriesi. These two extinct species of penguins preferred the tropics rather than the colder latitudes.

Yes, they do occur in the Atacama Desert of South America. Humboldt penguins live year-round along the coast, nesting in desert cliffs overlooking the ocean. Penguins are also found along the coast of the Namib Desert in Africa and, of course, in the Antarctic Desert.
