Do pennies rust?

# Most pennies do not rust because they are not made of ferrous metal. They're either copper or copper-plated zinc.

# However U.S. cents struck in 1943 were made of zinc-coated steel. When the zinc wore off, the coins did rust. # Pennies wont rust mostly because they corrode and oxidize. # They tend to turn green once oxidized or the penny looks vary dirty.
