Yes, but it is not common. Koalas are protected, and the vast majority of people do not actively engage in killing koalas. Only those with no conscience might think killing koalas is good sport. Careless drivers also kill koalas when these creatures try crossing the road between trees in their home range.

Land clearing occurs in virtually all environments, and the koala's habitat is no different. The bushland where koalas live is often land that is especially popular for residential use, or for agriculture. The best eucalyptus bushland occurs down the eastern coast of Australia, and this is where most people also live. It is unfortunate that koalas are the losers in the battle for their habitat, as land developers are very powerful people, with a great deal of influence on what councils decide regarding protection of native bushland.

Not legally, no.

From time to time, stories emerge in the media about koalas that have been shot for no other reason than mindless cruelty. Koalas are often taken to special native animal hospitals with bullet wounds - and yes, they are sometimes fatal.

Very much so. This is the primary reason why koala numbers are dropping.

Yes. Habitat loss is a continual problem. However, if koalas are known to be in a particular tree, it is illegal to destroy their home or harm the creatures.

Do koalas hurt humans?

Yes. While many measures are being taken to try to preserve koalas, ultimately humans do hurt koalas, both directly and indirectly. Some people are simply cruel, and there are numerous cases each year of koalas being shot. Humans indirectly hurt koalas by destroying their habitat for housing or commercial developments. Humans also hurt koalas indirectly by not carefully supervising their domestic pets. Dogs are one of the main killers of koalas in urban areas.
