yes. Mine lived with a female cat and his kittens. One day a big cat from I dont know where entered our garage and started abusing the kiitens. The dog took care of him. When my cat had kittens I saw my dog putting his head into the basket and I thought he was helping cleaning the kittens. When I looked closer the dog was gently sucking milk out of the mother cat. lol.
I own a pit bull and it was bred to chase large animals. So there for pits and cats can live together, but you need to give your cat lots of hidey holes. If you don't the cat cannot get away from your dog if needed.
Your best chance to get a dog and a cat to live and get along with one another is to have raised them from a kitten or puppy around the other species.
If they aren't raised around the other species; chances are small that they will get along, but it also depends on the temperament of the animal. Every one is different.
Will you train you pit bull to kill your cat? This may seem like an odd question but just remember any dog can be trained to be aggressive, not just Pit Bulls. I have been in the veterinary field for several years and have been bitten by smaller dogs (ie:Chihuahuas). Not one time have I been attacked by a Pit, Rottweiler, Doberman, etc.
No, they eat tougher meats and like it to, so don't worry about your pit eating your cat.
Wolfs do.

There is no collective noun specific to pit bulls. The collective nouns for dogs are a pack or a kennel; and a litter of puppies. These collective nouns are easily transferable to pit bulls; a pack of pit bulls, a kennel of pit bulls, a litter of pit bulls.
