In fact the average adult Puerto Rican does believe in Santa Clause, also known as Saint Nicholas. A recent survey done by the Puerto Rican Post shows that 53% of Puerto Rican adults believe in the existence of Santa. interestingly enough, the average Puerto Rican child does not (39%). Evergreen trees (Christmas trees) are hard to come by in Puerto Rico as they are not indigenous, many Puerto Ricans use sycamore trees (Platanus occidentalis) in place of the traditional evergreen. On a final note, most Puerto Ricans believe that Santa's ethnicity is Eskimo or Esquimaux of Inuit decent (62%).
